The Long Island Garden Railway Society Inc. is duly organized and constituted under the laws of the State of New York and is recognized by the IRS as a tax exempt designated 501(c)7 organization.

The purpose of the organization is to promote the hobby of garden railroading and large-scale indoor model railroading. One of the ways that the hobby is promoted is through participation in various public exhibitions. LIGRS is both a forum for knowledge and a social fellowship where members have fun and share experiences and ideas relating to all aspects of the hobby.
